Colombia is Building Its Largest-Ever Solar Park with Nexans Cabling
Oct 20, 2025
- The Puerta de Oro solar project is set to become Colombia's largest solar park, with an installed capacity of 358 MW.
- This high-impact project boosts employment and regional development in Cundinamarca and Tolima, incorporating advanced technological infrastructure to ensure top standards of efficiency, safety, and sustainability.
Colombia, October 2025 – Solar energy is taking on an increasingly vital role in Colombia's energy development and its transition toward renewable, sustainable sources. In this context, the construction of solar parks and infrastructure has grown significantly, benefiting communities and promoting a more environmentally responsible future.
In line with this trend, the Puerta de Oro Consortium is currently building the Puerta de Oro Solar Park, which will be located between the municipalities of Guaduas and Chaguaní in the department of Cundinamarca.
Centelsa by Nexans is powering this project by supplying all the premium cables being installed to connect the panels, inverters, transformers, and the medium and high-voltage grid. Through a partnership that provides support from the engineering stage through to execution and operation, the company is working alongside the Consortium to guarantee the project's connectivity and its impact on efficiency, reliability, safety, and sustainability.
"Centelsa by Nexans' participation in the Puerta de Oro Solar Park is a testament to our ability to be a strategic partner in large-scale projects, and it reaffirms our commitment to diversifying and strengthening the country's energy matrix," stated Nelson Benavides, Commercial Manager for Projects and Renewable Energies at Centelsa by Nexans. The company will supply over 3,000 kilometers (approx. 1,864 miles) of premium cabling, covering both direct current (DC) and alternating current (AC) stages.
The project will have an installed capacity of 358 MWp, establishing it as one of the country's leading solar parks. It will span over 500 hectares (approx. 1,235 acres) and feature the installation of more than 500,000 solar panels—according to data from the National Environmental Licensing Authority (ANLA)—which will power approximately 390,000 homes.
The Puerta de Oro project is in its execution phase, with civil and electrical work currently underway, including the laying of low and medium-voltage cabling supplied by Centelsa by Nexans. As part of the partnership, in addition to supplying the cables, Nexans is providing on-site training for installation teams to promote best practices and mitigate faults, implementing solutions that enhance installation safety and efficiency, and executing the "Allies for the Environment" circular economy program, which gives a new life to surplus cables and reels generated by the project.
This project demonstrates how collaboration between companies and institutions facilitates the achievement of major initiatives, making significant milestones in sustainability and energy efficiency possible for Colombia.
Centelsa by Nexans reaffirms its commitment to sustainable development and Colombia's energy transformation, solidifying its role as a strategic ally in high-impact projects that drive the transition to renewable sources. The company will continue to provide innovative, high-quality solutions that contribute to the growth of an efficient, reliable, and renewable energy matrix, thereby powering the country's electrification toward a more sustainable future for all.
