Energy Sector Takes a Major Step Forward with Tools that Streamline Operations and Mitigate Risks

Sep 26, 2025

  • After identifying over 200 on-site needs, pain points, and improvement opportunities through in-depth research in Colombia, Peru, and Chile, Centelsa by Nexans developed the innovative Nexans Solar Toolkit.

  • Through a strategic partnership with Hilti, Centelsa by Nexans has integrated the Hilti Exoskeleton into its specialized solar offering, expanding the scope of its innovative solutions and reinforcing its commitment to the safety, comfort, and productivity of field installers.

Colombia, September 2025 – According to the latest Annual Report on Occupational Health and Safety in the energy sector, musculoskeletal disorders account for 40% of all workplace injuries. This figure highlights the urgent need for solutions that not only meet the sector's technical demands but also protect the well-being of the workforce driving the energy transition.

In response, Centelsa by Nexans, a Nexans subsidiary in Colombia, has developed the Nexans Solar Toolkit, a solution that marks a milestone in cable installation for large-scale solar projects by integrating innovation, ergonomics, and efficiency. Three of its components—Mobiway™ Solar Kart, Roller Kit, and Shoulder Shield — were honored with the Lápiz de Acero Award, one of Colombia's most prestigious industrial design awards, for their contribution to on-site productivity, safety, and well-being. The Exoskeleton now joins these components, further enhancing the offering by boosting installer safety, comfort, and efficiency.

An Integrated Solution for the Present and Future of the Solar Sector

This solution is designed to streamline cable and panel installation tasks, reduce technician fatigue, and lower occupational risks. Its core component is the Mobiway™ Solar Kart-L, a mobile workstation equipped with a cable-unreeling system, tool compartments, a hydration station, a first-aid kit, LED lighting, a solar panel, and a power bank for storing energy and charging devices or tools in the field. Thanks to its rugged and versatile construction, the Kart is designed to operate on difficult terrain, featuring an all-terrain structure that can be attached to various vehicles with a tow hitch.

This innovation not only cuts down on operational time and costs associated with corrective maintenance but also enhances the reliability of solar systems, making projects more sustainable and competitive in the market.

“The Mobiway™ Solar Kart L is more than just an installation tool: it's an innovation that drives the energy transition and contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” explained Luis Fernando Blandón, Innovation Manager and Head of the Nexans Design Lab for South America. “By optimizing solar cable deployment, it facilitates the adoption of clean energy (SDG 7) and supports climate action (SDG 13). Its design integrates safety, ergonomics, and occupational well-being, promoting decent work and economic growth (SDG 8). Furthermore, it strengthens the electrical sector's sustainable infrastructure through technology and innovation (SDG 9) and encourages responsible resource consumption by reducing waste (SDG 12). This is how we at Centelsa by Nexans deliver disruptive solutions that transform how solar projects are built, aligning with a more sustainable future.” explained Luis Fernando Blandón, Innovation Manager and head of the Nexans Design Lab in South America

A Partnership that Strengthens Occupational Safety in the Energy Sector

Complementing this commitment to responsible innovation, Centelsa by Nexans recently signed a partnership with Hilti Colombia to incorporate the Hilti EXO-S Exoskeleton as part of its Comprehensive Solar Offering. This technological solution is designed to mitigate musculoskeletal injuries caused by repetitive overhead work, such as the assembly, fastening, and electrical connection of solar panels.

This solution not only improves comfort for technical staff but also reduces muscle and joint fatigue, preventing injuries to the shoulders, neck, and back, thereby contributing to a safer work environment and boosting overall efficiency.

With these advancements, Nexans reaffirms its mission to go "beyond cables," adding new solutions to its Comprehensive Solar Offering that enhance worker safety, streamline installation processes, and improve the reliability and sustainability of large-scale solar projects.
