Partnership Lauded for Bringing Public Lighting to Over 1,200 Families in Southern Cali

Aug 31, 2025

  • This initiative underscores the Nexans Foundation's commitment to the responsible electrification of the future.

Colombia, August 2025 – According to figures from the National Planning Department and the Ministry of Mines and Energy, at least 1.37 million people in Colombia lack access to electricity. Although significant progress has been made, regions like the Pacific and the Amazon still have coverage rates below 50%, highlighting a critical energy gap in the country.

To address this reality, the Nexans Foundation and the TECHO organization held a volunteer event to install 40 public lights in the Camino del Minero neighborhood in southern Cali. The project, carried out between 2024 and 2025 with the help of 70 volunteers, has benefited more than 1,200 families who now enjoy a safer and more functional environment.

The joint effort was publicly recognized, highlighting the commitment of the Nexans Foundation and Centelsa by Nexans—the group's subsidiary in Colombia—to sustainable electrification and connecting vulnerable communities to new opportunities.

“For 10 years, the Nexans Foundation has sought to create a meaningful impact in the countries where the group operates. These initiatives allow us to go beyond our core business and make a real contribution to the quality of life in communities and to the sustainable electrification of Colombia. Being part of this project and receiving this recognition from TECHO energizes us to continue our responsible contributions,” stated Luz Karime Gallego, Nexans Foundation Representative in Colombia.

Lina María Camargo, Project Manager at TECHO, added, “It is crucial for our organization to partner with entities committed to progress, capable of executing projects that close gaps in diverse territories across the country. This alliance reaffirms our mission to be a driving force for development for those who still face significant hardships.”

Inspired by the success of this project, the Nexans Foundation and TECHO are now identifying new community needs to expand their impact to other territories. New volunteer events are anticipated for the last quarter of 2025 in the Valle del Cauca region, with the next one scheduled for the "Brisas de las Torres" neighborhood in eastern Cali.

Through initiatives like this, the partnership aims not only to close the energy gap but also to contribute to a more equitable, secure, and connected Colombia.
